Wilson Combat BULWARK

When it comes to Wilson Combat, there is one thing you can count on – performance. This has become their calling card, and I have experienced it in every gun that has crossed my bench. Recently, Wilson Combat released a new pistol that is a bit of a departure from their standard designs. That pistol is the Wilson Combat BULWARK.

Wilson Combat BULWARK – A New Design

At the core of the BULWARK is an enclosed internal hammer-fired operating system, combining the ignition reliability and superior trigger characteristics traditionally associated with hammer-fired firearms with a clean, snag-free exterior profile ideal for concealed carry and professional use.

Unlike striker-fired pistols that rely on a spring-driven firing pin, the BULWARK utilizes a fully enclosed internal hammer mechanism. This design preserves the proven mechanical advantages of a hammer-driven system while protecting internal components from debris and eliminating the exposed hammer found on many conventional pistols. The result is a platform engineered to be one of the softest-recoiling and most reliable handguns in its class.

Sliding Trigger

The BULWARK features a sliding trigger with a 1911-style 3.75 – 4.5 lb pull, designed to deliver a crisp trigger break and short, tactile reset familiar to shooters who value precision and control. This refined trigger system promotes consistent engagement, rapid follow-up shots, and enhanced practical accuracy without sacrificing safety.

Built for long-term durability, the BULWARK features a stainless steel slide, hand-fitted match-grade barrel, and fire control module, including integrated frame rails that create a rigid internal chassis for extended service life and consistent performance. For additional protection, the pistol is finished in a tough Blacknitride coating, offering outstanding resistance to corrosion, wear, and harsh environmental conditions while maintaining a deep matte-black appearance.

Safeties

Impressive safety is a defining element of the design. The BULWARK incorporates four independent safety mechanisms, including an ergonomic grip safety that blocks the sear and trigger until disengaged, a firing pin block, and a trigger safety providing redundant mechanical protection while maintaining intuitive, fast handling for concealed carry and duty use.

Designed around a highly practical compact-duty footprint, the BULWARK offers 15+1 capacity in 9mm while remaining cross-compatible with many GLOCK 19-pattern holsters, allowing shooters to integrate it easily into existing carry systems. The pistol is also optics-ready, utilizing a versatile pin-based red-dot mounting system that provides a secure, repeatable interface for most modern pistol optics without requiring multiple plates.

Engineered for both deep concealed carry and extreme duty use, the BULWARK brings together compact dimensions, robust construction, advanced safety features, and internal hammer-fired performance in one purpose-built platform.

Range Time

I was very curious about this pistol and was quick to get it on the range. The first thing I want to talk about is the trigger. On my trigger gauge, it broke at a mere 3.35 pounds. Add to that the almost ridiculously short reset, and this gun showed its desire for speed.

Wilson Combat was also kind enough to send me two flavors of ammo to test the BULWARK with. First, 400 rounds of 135gr HBFN, and 100 rounds of 115gr HAP. Just as you would, I ran through every round for the testing.  During my time on the range, I found a couple of interesting points.

First, while the grip safety may visually appear out of place, it disappears when you get your grip. Second was the great grip and serration design. It was sufficient to allow me easy manipulations and grip without being overly aggressive. Second was the built-in magwell. As I mentioned, I believe this gun is built for speed, and being able to feed it quickly is a major perk.

Performance Trigger

Once again I feel compelled to talk about the trigger. The BULWARK is fast, plain, and simple. The tiger has a 1911 feel to it and is one of the best I have run in a long time. The gun performed flawlessly in every drill I ran. Mix this performance with the ability to use pretty much any Glock 19 holster out there, and the BULWARK becomes very appealing.
